About the centre

Skillskool is a small Scottish training provider. We teach two things properly rather than forty things badly, and we’re straight about what stage we’re at.

Why we exist

Plenty of people are doing administrative work without a qualification that says so. Some are held back by it at the point of applying for the next job. The college route works, but it needs a day a week in a building at a fixed time, and that rules out anyone with a shift pattern or a child at nursery.

The teaching part of a level 3 qualification does not need to happen in a room. The assessment part does need a qualified person looking at your work carefully. So we put the teaching on video and kept the assessment human.

Our approval status

Being able to enter someone for a national qualification requires centre approval from Qualifications Scotland. That application is in progress and not yet granted.

Until it is, we cannot assess or certificate anyone, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we can do now is take your details, give you access to the free lessons, and contact you the moment enrolment opens.

PLACEHOLDER — update on approval Replace this whole page section with the real position once you have a written decision. If approval is granted, state the centre number. If it is refused or delayed, say so and give a revised date.

Who runs it

PLACEHOLDER — two or three sentences about who you are and what you’ve done. This matters more than anything else on the site. People handing over money for a qualification want to know a real person is behind it, and a name with a bit of history attached does more work than any amount of marketing copy.

PLACEHOLDER — name the tutor and assessor once those posts are filled, and say what qualifies them. Prospective learners and Qualifications Scotland both want the same information here.

How we handle your work

Assessment decisions are internally verified, which means a second person checks a sample of marking to make sure the standard is being applied consistently.

If you think a decision is wrong you can appeal it, and the appeal is looked at by someone who wasn’t involved in the original decision. If you’re unhappy with how you’ve been treated rather than how you’ve been marked, that’s a complaint and it goes down a different route. Both procedures are written down and we’ll send them to you on request.
